North Salem is a small town located in Eel River Township of Hendricks County in the state of Indiana. It boasts a population of 518 residents based on the 2010 census. The town was first laid out by settlers in 1835. It was then followed by the construction of a post office in 1839. In 1899, North Salem was finally incorporated as a town.
The land surrounding the town consists of low farmlands, as well as deep ravines and woodlands. Both Eel River and Big Walnut Creek provide the town with an ample supply of fish.
The town has regularly celebrated the “Old Fashion Days” Festival over the Labor Day weekend for the past 39 years. It is considered the largest parade in the Hendricks County.
