Whitestown is located in Boone County in the state of Indiana. According to data from the United States Census Bureau, the town was home to 3,950 residents in 2013.

Whitestown was founded in 1851, when a railroad company built a line through the area. The new community was named after Albert Smith White, who served as president of the railroad company at that time. Before becoming an official of several railroad companies, White also served as a senator and congressman, as well as a leader of the movement to abolish slavery in the United States.
