Learn about Danville, IN

The town of Danville is located in Center Township of Hendricks County, Indiana. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 9,001 residents. It is considered the county seat for Hendricks County. The town was founded in 1824, with the Danville post office was established a year later. It was then incorporated as a town in 1835. Its name is taken from two possible sources: either from Daniel Clerk, justice of the peace, or for Judge William Watson Wick’s brother.

One of the major points of interest around the town includes the Hendricks County Historical Museum, which is located in the former Sheriff’s Residence and Jail. It was built in 1866 and served as the county jail until 1874. It is also one of the only surviving examples of the Second Empire style of architecture in the county. The Museum’s collection includes historical items that reflect the county’s domestic life, agriculture, military history and education.
