Fortville is a town located in the Vernon Township of Hancock County in the state of Indiana. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 3,929 people. Originally called Walpole, it was laid out and platted under this name in 1849. It was also named for Cephus Fort, who was the original owner of the town site. In 1865, the Fortville was officially incorporated as a town.
